"Restoring the Glory: Re-Building Downtown New York City"
April 5, 2005

The most recent meeting of the Civil Engineering & Construction club was held on April 5, 2005 at the offices of Gilbane Building Company in New York City. An evening of information and networking, the event featured a fascinating presentation on the planned design and re-construction of the World Trade Center site and surrounding area, delivered by Louis J. Menno, P.E., Program Director for the World Trade Center Site Restoration, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Lou discussed the program currently underway to re-build the World Trade Center site and nearby transportation facilities.

As the Port Authority's director in charge of the program, Lou gave us an up-close look at the restoration of PATH train service between Jersey City and downtown New York City; the Master Plan for the World Trade Center site that includes the Freedom Tower, 9/11 Memorial, cultural facilities and new commercial office space; and the new Downtown Transportation Center.

A question and answer session followed Mr. Menno's presentation, followed by some networking by the over 40 club members and guests in attendance. This was a really enjoyable and interesting evening. Make plans to join us for the next meeting on September 14, 2005! (Scroll down for photos)
